“We were approached by a hospital products company that didn't want to do their own thermoforming anymore,” explains Chandler Rees's brother, Robert, Munot Plastics' general manager. “We realized we could really expand our market by not confining ourselves to just prototype molds, so we bartered with the hospital products company for our first thermoforming machine. That's what propelled us into the whole thermoforming industry.”

Munot Plastics (named after a castle in Schaffhausen, Switzerland which the owners felt suggested an image of strength, stability, and endurance) started out in a 12,000-square-foot warehouse in 1963 at 12th and Cascade Streets in Erie. By 1970, the company had expanded enough to move into 38,000 square feet of total space in two adjacent buildings at its present location of 2935 West 17th Street and 2929 West 17th Street.

“We grew slowly but steadily by using a door-to-door salesman, which you really don't see anymore these days,” says Robert, “and by word-of-mouth as we built a reputation for quality and good service.”

Currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, Munot Plastics produces a wide variety of thermoformed packaging products, such as clamshell, blister, and trifold, for an extensive range of industries including automotive, consumer electronics, cosmetics, health and beauty, hardware, office supplies, and pharmaceutical.

Chandler Rees, President and ญญ?co-owner, and Patricia C. Rees, Secretary Treasurer and co-owner since 1968, fosters a family atmosphere by employing not only his brother Robert but his two sons, Chan Jr., Vice-President of Operations and Chris, Vice-President of Manufacturing.

“Our niche is our creative design capabilities,” says Robert. “We also emphasize quality and provide it at a fair market price.”“We were approached by a hospital products company that didn't want to do their own thermoforming anymore,” explains Chandler Rees's brother, Robert, Munot Plastics' general manager. “We realized we could really expand our market by not confining ourselves to just prototype molds, so we bartered with the hospital products company for our first thermoforming machine.
