Nuts and bolts have become a synonym for “the basics” of just about anything. Dave and Joe Ott, brothers and current owners of Champion Bolt, supply the real thing — the highest quality nuts and bolts, fasteners and small components to power generation industry, rail, automotive, and commercial sectors.

“Although they are the smallest and least expensive components of any assembly, we understand the importance that nuts and bolts play in the supply chain. We strive to meet our customers expectation for on time delivery and quality performance,” states Dave Ott. As a global supplier of fasteners and many value add services, Champion Bolt has developed a reputation for quality, consistency and commitment to our customers. “Whether you are looking for a standard fasteners, aerospace, military, or custom per drawing fasteners, we can provide quality fasteners on time.”

In 1986, Joseph Ott Sr. founded Precision Bolt, selling to MRO departments, general public and operating with service driven philosophy. After moving to a new location and battling a depressed economy in 2001, this family owned and operated company developed a new business plan and changed its name becoming Champion Bolt. Under their new name, the company went after a new realm of the market — selling high-end critical application fasteners. This converted the company's business plan to a process driven approach.

The second generation of Ott family owners are friendly, hard working brothers who grew up in Erie and chose to carry on their family's legacy. Their shared vision, honesty, and integrity set them apart from the competition. “We take a great deal of pride in our personalized approach and problem-solving capabilities,” says Joe Ott. “We believe our employees are the best at supporting the company philosophy of customer service. With the staff, we analyze our production process day in and day out, just as we do the performance of the company. This commitment to exceptional performance enables us to process thousands of transactions per month nearly error free.”

“At Champion Bolt, we find solutions to the problems facing our customers,” says Dave Ott. “We understand the smallest error can delay a shipment or shut down production, jeopardizing our customers on-time and performance. We pride ourselves on the inspection and audit processes which prevent future errors and possible shutdowns for our customers.”

“Investing in the latest technologies to help us maintain quality standards internally and externally, we develop efficiency savings that we pass on to our customers,” says Joe Ott. “At Champion, we are always looking for ways to streamline, economize, accelerate and improve our processes. This continual effort not only betters our business, it also enhances our reputation and builds value in customer relationships.”

Champion Bolt invests in the right tools and technology to get the job done. The Prophet 21 Distribution Software allows Champion Bolt to maintain order accuracy and planning, as well as inventory and warehouse management — which are fundamental to the business. The most recent purchase of a state-of-the-art Vertical Lift System services the warehouse as a regulator. This device has 2,400 storage bins and helps with warehouse accuracy, expedition of processes and space management. And Champion's HWACHEON CUTEX-160 Horizontal Turning Center gives them the capability to perform a range of applications from small to large component machining and processing.

The latest technology can even be found in Champion's bar coding system. Bar coding and wireless integration allow individuals in the warehouse to verify exactly what's on the shipping table. This gives them a step up in an industry where it is crucial to have comprehensive and precise records in order to expedite services.

Managing the flow of inventory requires a vast product line. “Our inventory is managed by customer requirements. Our inventory consists of completed and partially completed product. Champion custom modifies our fasteners in house. Whether it's grinding, drilling, balancing or kitting these steps in the process never leave our watchful eyes,” says Joe Ott.

“Whatever a customer needs, we can do it,” adds Dave Ott. “Typically, we meet with our customers and identify their expectations for service. Champion will then implement a unique custom service package to meet their requirements. “We partner with our customers, work behind the scenes to help them come through for their own customers.”

“Over the next five years, we hope to experience significant growth,” says Dave Ott. “During the past ten years, we have been fortunate enough to see double digit growth, beginning locally and continuing into the national market. We now are at the point where we want to expand within customer platforms on the global level. As a result of on-time delivery and exceptional quality performance, opportunities to expand internationally have helped diversify our customer base and provide Champion an avenue for future growth.”

Continually striving to find more efficient ways of doing business, making every effort to enhance their reputation and building customer relationships based on performance, the Ott family keeps Champion Bolt at the top — by keeping their customers at the top of their industries.
