The “hometown” concept, a longstanding hallmark of Marquette Savings Bank, began in 1908 when 38 local businessmen formed with a common purpose of stimulating savings and loan programs for homeowners. During the bank's formative years, business transactions were held at various locations along State Street in Erie. The association then moved into a small office in the newly constructed Erie Daily Times building, and with two desks and a counter they began daily transactions. As business increased, new headquarters were rented in 1939 and later purchased at 920 Peach Street, the bank's current headquarters. In 1951, the association was admitted as a member of the Federal Home Loan Bank system and the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation. In 1963 the first of five regional branch offices opened in Meadville, Pa., and the following year another opened in Erie. The membership approved a name change in 1971 and the association became known as Marquette Savings Association. In 1993, a new charter was granted to better serve area customers, and the name was changed to Marquette Savings Bank. In 2002, Marquette President Frank Vogt retired after 42 years of service. Michael Edwards succeeded Vogt to become the bank's chief executive officer and remains in that position today. Under Edwards' leadership, Marquette constructed three full-service offices in Erie and added a drive-thru office in Meadville. In 2009, Marquette acquired three former National City Bank offices in Crawford County and created a business banking division. Today with 12 offices serving Erie and Crawford counties and assets of approximately $813 million, Marquette has grown into one of the area's most trusted full-service financial institutions. Through growth and change, Marquette has maintained its longstanding commitment to local residents who appreciate the “Hometown Touch” Marquette Savings Bank alone can deliver. The “hometown” concept, a longstanding hallmark of Marquette Savings Bank, began in 1908 when 38 local businessmen formed with a common purpose of stimulating savings and loan programs for homeowners.
